The Not So Fun "Fun Run"

Okay, so introducing my two girls to the joys of running races at 8:30 am on a Monday morning probably wasn't the best way to do it. We had to wake them at 7 am, which on any normal day, they would be up but, they had been up late the night before so rousing them was a little difficult. Add that in with the whims and wishes of a 4 year old who wants to something one minute and can change her mind, well, faster than a 3 year old, and you've got an interesting combination.

We arrived at the race at 8:15 am, got the numbers pinned on and I ran off to find a bathroom, afraid I wouldn't have time between the fun run and the 15K which started at 8:30 am. Once that was taken care of, we headed to the start. Both girls wanted to hold my hand in the sea of people (could have easily been at least 200) so initially, the running for me was a little difficult. They both pretty much ran the first half mile. Not bad. Okay, I also reminded them they get Popsicles at the finish and that helped at least once.

The second half mile was when things turned not so fun. Emily started complaining that her knees hurt so we walked a little bit. The complaining stopped so we started running again and the complaining started once again. Finally, I just picked Emily up and carried her. Kate and I walked the last quarter mile. Just before the end, I put Emily down and encouraged her to run across the finish. No go, so I carried her across the finish.

Today, they seem to have had fun doing it although I haven't asked if they want to do it again. I guess it is like running a marathon. Initially, you say "Never again" and then a couple of days later you are planning for the next one.

More on Saturday's 16 miler (I struggled but I finished) and the Blueberry Stomp a little later. Time to pick Kate up from school and I've got to get some stuff edited before tomorrow before I can blog some more. Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend.

So, I have been away from the internet and blogging for while. Congrats on your long runs. A 15K, that's impressive. Weren't the Olympics fun? We were overseas and saw a lot of sailing and "team GB". Oh well, still love the atmosphere.

Thanks for the welcome back. But the trip doesn't feel like a well deserved break. I can't get back into my running. After my failed attempt at the 10K, I'm pretty disappointed and haven't run since. I'm such a slacker! Do you ever feel that way?
