Going to Tri

Yep. I did it. I just signed up for my first Triathlon. Okay, it was kind of spur of the moment.

The triathlon that has taken place in our town, and that I was going to participate in,was canceled thanks to the economy. I received an e-mail this morning from Gazelle Sports, a sporting goods store in Grand Rapids that was one of the sponsors on the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon. Anyway, they were advertising the Tri del Sol at a camp just south of Grand Rapids. It is a .5 mile swim, 18 mile bike ride, and 4.5 mile run on Saturday, July 18. I talked to Steve and he said go for it, so I did. And now, I'm officially committed.

That was the good news. The bad news is that I've been slacking on training the last week. After getting slightly back into the groove after being sick, I hit a roadblock when I ended up staying up all night at the all nighter at church Friday night. It was a lot of fun but I'm still recovering. I ended up taking the weekend off. I just didn't have the energy.

Got back to it Monday with spinning and yesterday with a 5.5 mile run averaging a 9:12 min/mile pace. I was happy with that. I did take a rather long walking break when I ran into my former boss out for a walk. I haven't seen him in a couple of months and always enjoy catching up with him. He's kind of my own Col. Potter (from M*A*S*H). One of his favorite sayings is, "Don't get into a urinating contest with a skunk" and it has come in useful many, many times. Anyway, I walked with him for a while and then ran the last 1.5 miles home.

The temperatures are supposed to rise into the 40s - something very welcome here after temps fell into the single digits Tuesday morning. Hopefully this will allow for a little more running outside.

I pull myself away from the computer and get some cleaning done. Hope you have a great day!

Yay for the triathalon! I'm doing an indoor one here at my gym. In about three weeks. Yikes. And a 5.5mile run at 9:12 pace, that sounds pretty awesome to me!

I'm looking forward to hearing how your tri goes. You'll do fine. Kind of nice that you know you have a set amount of time to do an activity. Keep up the good work!!
