Here Comes the Sun

Just when we were getting used to the dreary days, the sun came out in full, beautiful force yesterday. It was one of those perfect fall days. The trees have taken on the look of bright rainbows, there is a crisp smell in the air, and the sun just made everything better.

It is the weekend for the World Wide Festival of Races. I signed up to do the 10k as I had 8 miles on the schedule. Well, I made it to 4. 87 and had to stop.

All week, I've felt like my shoe has been rubbing against/digging into the top of my heal. It didn't really bother me running until midway through my run Thursday. Friday, it was a bit worse so I tried loosening my shoe thinking it was a problem with the shoe. Then I just wore flip flops the rest of the day.

Yesterday morning, it bothered me as soon as I put on my running shoes. It hurt on and off through the first couple of miles. Just after I turned around to head home, there was a pain I hadn't yet felt in the top of my heal. It was a bit more painful that before so I started walking/limping as the pain was still there. After a while, I picked up my walking pace but didn't feel comfortable running. Then after a bit, the pain was back for a bit, limping began and then the pain went away. Pace picked up. And on I went like that for three about 3.5 miles.

I have not run today. I'm not going to attempt it. I may try tomorrow just to see how it feels. I'm trying to gently stretch it, too. I don't know what is going to happen. Can someone just cut off the right side of my body?

So it isn't a open wound type thing? Is it more inside your heel? Geez that stinks. Dont you have a marathon or big race coming up? Maybe time for new shoes? Achilles or PF? Hope it feels better.

It was a glorious fall day here today too!

Not an open wound. I'm hoping it is just from another pair of shoes I've been wearing rubbing up against the tendon. I just got new shoes a little over a month ago so I don't think it is that. I did get a run in today after not running yesterday and it felt much better. I think this is taper madness on steroids in preparation for Sunday's marathon :-)
