Three Days Left

Yep...Three days until the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon. Every day for the last week, I've received a newsletter from the race director, Don Kern. He makes me laugh. This excerpt is from today's...

RE-FREAKIN'-LAX
You're ready. You've prepared. You've trained. And now, it's time for the fun. Feel the energy from the people around you. Find someone from the race staff in a red jacket and give them a hug. It's your day now. Enjoy everything about it.
Don't stress about parking. There's plenty. Don't stress about aid stations. They're well stocked, and they're ROCKIN'. Don't stress about portajohns. We have plenty. (Some of them look like big blue plastic boxes and have white toilet paper. Many others look like big plants with woody stems and have various colored toilet paper them.)
Everybody here loves you. We're all here to help. And YOU? You're gonna be awesome out there.

Three more runs to do - 6 miles, 5 miles, and 3 miles. I haven't run since Monday. Heel is feeling okay. Back is still a little stiff but manageable. The cold (or more like cold wanna-be) is still knocking but I'm keeping it at bay. Looks like the weather will be in the 30s at start time but warming up to near 50 and sunny. Perfect!

So, just need to pack between now and tomorrow at 3 pm when we hope to leave.

Now, it is time for me to get ready to sub for 6th graders at the girls' school. I'm sure it will be much different than kindergarten (which I love) and third grade (which isn't too bad). I'm sure I will be taking a bath in hand sanitizer when I get home. :-)

Boy, I would have liked to get an encouraging letter like that before my races.

Good luck and have fun!! I'm not sure which report I'm more interested in; your race report or you subbing for 6th grade girls, it's a tossup!

Rock the clock!

Hey! Just wanted to pop in and wish you well in your race this weekend! Good luck and God bless you in your travels, your race, and time spent with your family. Tammy and I are heading down to Columbus tomorrow to run the "Nationwide Better Health Half Marathon". We're hooking up with her cousin, Erin, and her cousin's friend, Katie. The 3 of them will run together and I am shooting for around a 1:50:00. I ran a 1:56 something a couple of weeks ago in Rochester Hills at the Brooksie Half. Very hilly! We shall see...
Anyway, have a great trip, a blessed race, and have fun, my friend!

Thanks everyone!

Regina, I was not necessarily kickin' butt (as that would be illegal) but I was taking names. Sixth graders apparently know all (insert eye roll). Thankfully we got through it and I got a refresher course on prime factorization (which I had to teach with about one minute of prep time). I is always an adventure but one I am definitely beginning to enjoy.

Joe, thank you! Enjoyed listening to you and Steve on my last two runs - Intervals yesterday and Phedip this morning. We all know Steve Runner is really a FOJ! :-)

Rick, Good luck to you and Tammy. Have a fantastic time. You are really racking up the races! The girls especially can't wait to get to grandma and grandpa's house. It will be nice to get away for a bit and back to the great state of Michigan :-). Hoping to run into Zoomy sometime Sunday. Take care!
